Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a technique Dr. Vodder and his wife developed to treat swollen lymph nodes. It can be practiced on individuals who cannot undergo regular massage therapy due to swelling to move stagnant or excessive lymph fluid (edema) caused by illness, traumatic injuries, or surgery.

The benefits of MLD include:

  • draining excess fluids and toxins from the body,
  • reducing swelling and inflammation,
  • improving lymph and blood flow, and
  • helping to eliminate toxins.

It involves minimal pressure and follows precise pathways that should not be altered without medical reasoning.

MLD is commonly used immediately after surgery to aid in eliminating fluids and accelerating recovery from cosmetic surgery. Please note that although this modality is frequently practiced immediately after surgery, it is not its primary focus, as it will not remove lumps or prevent fibrosis

It’s important to note that MLD therapists must undergo additional training to become certified in lymphatic drainage. Therefore, ensuring that your therapist is licensed and qualified to perform MLD is crucial, as an uncertified individual could potentially cause harm rather than benefits.
